The new professions in energy efficiency and green building reflect an extremely positive trend in employment. Proof comes from a survey conducted by ITS Red in the Veneto and Lombardy regions. More than 90{f94e4705dd4b92c5eea9efac2f517841c0e94ef186bd3a34efec40b3a1787622} of newly qualified students find work within a year of completing their studies.

Italy’s ITS – Istituti Tecnici Superiori , vocational high schools – are small polytechnics with a specialised educational offer in a specific sector, whose courses entail a high level of on-the-job training.

And this workplace training is what makes the school-leavers’ profiles so appealing to employers.

According to the GreenItaly report from Fondazione Symbola and Unioncamere, in 2016 corporate recruitment in green jobs accounted for 12.9{f94e4705dd4b92c5eea9efac2f517841c0e94ef186bd3a34efec40b3a1787622} of the total, flanked by 31.6{f94e4705dd4b92c5eea9efac2f517841c0e94ef186bd3a34efec40b3a1787622} of profiles (non-green jobs) requiring green skills In absolute terms, the total is 72,300 green-job recruitments and 176,800 recruitments associated with the request for green skills; the overall total is 249,100 recruitments, representing 44.5{f94e4705dd4b92c5eea9efac2f517841c0e94ef186bd3a34efec40b3a1787622} of jobs on offer.

An expanding market requiring high specialisation (where specific post-diploma training plays a fundamental role): in R&D, there were 15,700 green recruitments in 2016, i.e., 66.2{f94e4705dd4b92c5eea9efac2f517841c0e94ef186bd3a34efec40b3a1787622} of the total in corporate R&D.

The green building sector has already created 236,000 jobs and, taking the ancillary industry into account, could reach 400,000 by the end of 2017, especially thanks to re-qualifications.

Green building is the only construction segment to report a positive trend, with 20{f94e4705dd4b92c5eea9efac2f517841c0e94ef186bd3a34efec40b3a1787622} growth in the last two years and now accounting for 70{f94e4705dd4b92c5eea9efac2f517841c0e94ef186bd3a34efec40b3a1787622} of the overall market.

According to GreenItaly forecasts this trend will strengthen in the future: new construction will gradually shrink, to 2{f94e4705dd4b92c5eea9efac2f517841c0e94ef186bd3a34efec40b3a1787622} of the market in 2050, while sustainable restructuring will continue to grow.
