A biologist with a specialisation in environmental issues, Emilio became involved in environmental communication in the mid-1990s, after working as a scientific researcher in Italy and France.
He joined PDC Produzione di comunicazione as head of the environmental division at the end of the 1990s; from 2002 to 2012 he worked at Allea, an Italian communication company, before deciding to become an independent consultant. He joined Amapola in the autumn of 2021.
Emilio has been involved in corporate social responsibility throughout his career, with a particular interest in the development of projects in environmental sustainability, environmental management and communication, stakeholder engagement and territorial acceptability of plants and infrastructure.
One of the first professionals in Italy to apply environmental communication techniques in industry, he lectured in the subject at the IULM University in Milan from 2001 to 2015. Today he teaches sustainability and conflict management on master’s degree courses in Milan and Rome.
During his career, Emilio has worked with companies ranging from SMEs and utilities to multinationals, in production areas where he has built up specific cross-sector skills: energy production from fossil fuels and renewable sources, oil&gas, waste management, large-scale projects and industry generally.
Since the early 2000s, Emilio has followed infrastructure projects on the ground to build consensus and engage stakeholders. He has developed a special methodology based on computation of a socio-environmental risk indicator to reduce the risks of local opposition. His approach fosters structured stakeholder engagement and promotes targeted sustainability projects associated with the infrastructure.
He has coordinated and produced scientific studies on environmental sustainability and the social acceptability of new infrastructures for research bodies or public companies.
He has written many articles and papers and is a regular contributor to online publications.
As a lover of nature and the mountains, when he can he sets off on long rejuvenating walks.
